Community Initiatives

Projects and initiatives that bring neighbours together and strengthen our community.

Gathering Space & Community Garden

Two children pushing a cart filled with colorful flowers outdoors on a sunny day.

Inspired by resident feedback, the Gathering Space & Community Garden will be coming to the park at 1611 Evergreen Drive SW.

We’re creating a welcoming, accessible and flexible space for all ages to connect, learn, and grow together.

Currently in the early planning stage, led by a dedicated volunteer team, this is a significant project for SECA. Completion of phase one is anticipated for the fall of 2028. Watch for updates as the project progresses

SECA Chairs

Colorful playground equipment with a blue roof, slides, climbing structures, and a rope web, surrounded by green grass, trees, and a clear blue sky.

SECA’s colourful chairs are placed seasonally throughout our parks and pathways for everyone to enjoy. Designed to encourage connection and conversation, they’ve become a simple but meaningful part of our community, and a source of pride.

Sit. Connect. Belong.

Little Free Libraries

SECA supports a growing network of Little Free Libraries where individuals are encouraged to leave a book or take a book. These book-sharing spots are built and maintained by volunteers, offering access to free books for all ages.

Farm Stand

People shopping at an outdoor farmers market stall with fresh vegetables, including cucumbers and green beans, under a canopy on a sunny day.

A seasonal farm stand brings fresh, locally grown produce to our community, offering convenient access to fresh food close to home. Look for our Farm Stand every Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, in the Fish Creek–Lacombe LRT parking off Shawnee Drive SW.

The Farm Stand is brought to Shawnee Evergreen through a partnership with the City of Calgary, Calgary Transit and Freshpal Farms.

Community Connector

SECA’s Community Connector helps build relationships, supports local initiatives, and connects neighbours to opportunities and resources.

You may see Anya at SECA programs, events, and pop-ups throughout the community.

SECA’s Walks & Talks

Group of people standing outdoors on a sidewalk, engaged in conversation, with trees, houses, and cloudy sky in the background.

In summer 2024, neighbours explored Shawnee-Evergreen through a series of SECA Walks & Talks inspired by Jane's Walk, held around the world. Along the way, we uncovered hidden stories, shared memories, and imagined the future of our parks and pathways together.

These walks sparked new ideas, new connections, and a deeper appreciation for the community we call home. This 6-video series captures some of those special moments.

Community Planning

Made up of local residents, SECA’s Planning & Development Committee reviews development applications in Shawnee Slopes and Evergreen Estates and provides feedback to the City.

This work is especially important as our neighbourhood continues to be the fastest-growing community due to ongoing LRT-oriented development and the Shawnee Park project.
