2026 AGM & Concept Consultation

October 26, 2026

After reviewing proposals from three local landscape architecture firms, SECA's Community Hub & Garden Committee selected 818 Studio to proceed with concept designs.

In advance of SECA's 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), 818 Studio prepared a cohesive conceptual drawing, integrating space for raised garden beds, flexible informal gathering spaces, and a shipping container stage for formal programming.

This proposed design reflects the vision SECA heard from residents in 2024 and at the 2026 Picnic in the Park, combining spaces for recreation, food growing, and social gathering, all while enhancing existing spaces in the park.

Before SECA proceeds with the concept from 818 Studio, we need community feedback. What do you like about the concept? What do you dislike? What do you hope to see? What are your concerns?

Scroll down to review the proposed designs in greater detail!

Overall Concept

The image below proposes breaking the space up into four “zones” for entertainment, socializing, gardens, and open space.

What do you think? Do you think the space is missing anything important?

Are there too many garden beds? Too few?

Are there too many new trees? Not enough?

Is there enough new seating?

Garden Zone

The raised garden beds will be used for growing food and will overlook a native flower garden.

What do you think of the materials shown in this image? Should the garden beds, fence, or base be a different material?

What kinds of wildlife mitigation methods have you successfully implemented in your own gardens? Have you seen effective measures at other community gardens?

Entertainment Zone

What do you think of the proposed shipping container stage? The shipping containers will be necessary to store equipment for the care and maintenance of the garden, as well as items for events, like folding chairs and tables.

Are you excited about a shipping container stage for formal programming? What kinds of entertainment do you want to see? Or else, what do you think the shipping containers can be used for, in addition to storage?

Do you like the inclusion of a fire pit?

Social Zone

The proposed design prioritizes covered picnic tables and shaded seating areas, both important elements residents wanted us to prioritize during our initial 2024 consultation.

Do your children currently play in the nearby playground? Do you think the proposed gazebo will give you proper visibility to supervise your children?

Should there be even more covered seating on the north side of the playground?

What kind of gazebo aesthetic do you think is most appropriate?

There are a lot of things to think about! You don't have to answer all of the questions we posed above. And you likely have opinions that we didn't cover.

Whatever your thoughts are about the proposed concept, SECA wants to hear from you!
