The Treasurer is a non-paid volunteer board position who, as a member of the volunteer Board, will offer guidance to the Board of Directors to ensure sound fiscal planning, decision-making, and governance-level oversight.

The Treasurer is automatically a member of the Executive Committee and will chair the Finance Committee. The Treasurer's scope of duties and responsibilities will be supported by a bookkeeper and an accounting software platform.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide considered opinion and perspectives on financial policy and procedures, prospective projects, and financial risk to the organization

  • Develop and maintain fit-for-purpose financial, budgetary, and accounting policies and procedures

  • Maintain all bank accounts and accounting records for general and casino accounts

  • Process and oversight for all financial transactions

    • Receives funds and deposit to accounts and categorizes all expenses/incomes

    • Ensure proper categorization and use of gaming funds in collaboration with the SECA Casino Chair

  • Ensure that funds, grants, and service delivery contracts are accounted for in accordance with contractual requirements

  • Ensure that any required funder reports, government tax filings and remittances are submitted and that payment for services and other liabilities are settled in a timely manner

  • Prepare annual financial statements

  • Prepare annual GST rebate submission

  • Prepare financial reports for AGM, annual returns, AGLC, and grants

  • Report to Board of Directors (monthly) and general membership (annually) on financial transactions, statements, including analysis of any outliers and matters of interest to understand the financial position of SECA

  • Monitor budget performance and report status to the Board of Directors

  • Build draft budget for board review/approval in September / October, prior to the October AGM

  • Coordinate audit of annual financial statements

  • Supervise the bookkeeper

  • Chair of the Finance Committee

  • Act as a co-signing officer for all expenditures from SECA accounts, as well as on other official documents as needed.

  • Ensure that a record of all members of SECA is kept.

  • Perform other duties prescribed by the Board or by the President

What we’re looking for:

  • Commitment to SECA’s mission and strategic directions, and be a member of SECA living within the community boundaries.

  • Financial acumen, understanding of and experience with good financial management and reporting practices; experience in the non-profit sector and in AGLC use of funds is an asset

  • Attendance at Board meetings (2h, monthly except Jul, Aug), Finance Committee meetings (minimum of 3 meetings per year) and other committee meetings when needed, and Annual General Meetings

  • Ability to commit the time required to fulfill the responsibilities described above

  • Support of and participation in events and projects

Time commitment:

  • ~16–24 hours per month (potentially light during July-August)
